Yes.
Ok, you want more detail than that.
But the answer is absolutely.
Why? Most people say that it’s just a number and not reflective of who you are!
Yes, but.
I made it a point to weigh myself every single day. Because I wanted to make sure I was working towards my goal EVERY SINGLE DAY. By weighing myself once a week, I was instinctively making sure to work hard just near weigh in day, and not taking the steps daily to achieve long term progress.
The number on the scale can be scary. But think of it as a bookend; a number you’ll never see again. You’re there, now work backwards!
Some might say don’t step on the scale daily because you’ll get discouraged.
Get discouraged! There’s a reason that number is not moving! Once you accept that you can make progress.
Two things to consider:
You are more than the number – that is true. But that number (and I’m specifically referring to my situation) reflected a lot. Poor eating. Lack of exercise. Generally a lack of self control to take care of myself.
Micro adjustments – when working out hard, and before I took full accounting of my nutrition, I fell into the salad fallacy; that is, because it is a salad, it must be healthy. I would head to one of my regular places, and grab a salad. Well lo and behold, every single time I had that, I gained two pounds. Once I realized that, I stopped getting it. But I realized that by knowing and tracking my weight, so if I had lost four lbs, then gained back two the next day, with all else equal I found my culprit.
One other note on salads. I’m a huge fan of a certain fast casual restaurant chain, and fell into the salad fallacy. Their dressing is the WORST thing on the menu.
So yes, weigh yourself every day, so you can make adjustments daily, not weekly!
